Automating My Vacation Rental with Wyze Sensors and HVAC Control

I’ve been exploring ways to enhance the automation in my vacation rental property, and I wanted to share my journey and insights with the community. My goal is to create a system that not only saves energy but also protects the HVAC system from potential damage due to open windows or doors while the AC is running.

I’ve come across some fascinating solutions where other users have integrated their alarm system sensors with their HVAC controls. This inspired me to look into whether this is possible with my Wyze door/entry sensors. While I don’t currently have a Wyze thermostat, I’m seriously considering getting one if it can make this integration possible.

The main concern, as I’m sure many of you understand, is the risk of the AC compressor freezing if renters leave doors or windows open while the AC is running, especially during hot weather. I’ve read about using IFTTT for such automation, but I’m curious if there are more reliable or efficient methods within the Wyze ecosystem or through Home Assistant integrations.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has successfully implemented a similar system. What tools, apps, or automations did you use? Any tips or potential pitfalls to watch out for? I’m also open to exploring custom scripts or more advanced setups if they offer better reliability.

This project has been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to see how I can optimize it further. Whether it’s through existing integrations or a bit of DIY scripting, I’m committed to finding a solution that balances convenience, energy efficiency, and system protection.

Thanks in advance for your insights and suggestions! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other create smarter, more efficient home automation systems.
