Automating Outdoor Lighting with Smart Switches and Schedules

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent project automating my outdoor lighting system. It’s been a fun challenge and I’ve learned a lot along the way! :star2:

I’ve been using Shelly 1 devices to control my outdoor lights, and while they’ve been reliable, I recently ran into an issue where one of them stopped working after a week. It was frustrating, but I managed to troubleshoot it by resetting the device and ensuring all connections were secure. Turns out, it was just a temporary glitch! :hammer_and_wrench:

For scheduling, I’ve been experimenting with OpenHAB rules to create custom lighting schedules. My goal was to have lights turn on at sunset and off at a specific time, but I also wanted the flexibility to adjust schedules for different seasons. I found that using a combination of time-based triggers and scene automation worked perfectly. For example, in the summer, my porch lights stay on later than in the winter. :sunrise:

One thing I struggled with initially was getting the automation to recognize different devices. I had to create separate rules for each light group, which was a bit time-consuming, but it paid off in the end. Now, I can control each set of lights independently, which is super convenient! :bulb:

I’d love to hear if anyone else has tips for optimizing outdoor lighting automation. Have you tried integrating motion sensors or other smart devices? I’m always looking for ways to make my setup even smarter! :rocket:

Cheers, [Your Name]
