Automating Power Outage Recovery: My Experience and Tips

Hello everyone! I hope this post finds you all well. I wanted to share my experience with automating power outage recovery, as this has been a significant concern for me living in an area prone to frequent power disruptions.

I recently integrated several smart devices into my home, including smart outlets and battery backups, to ensure that critical appliances remain operational during power outages. However, I encountered an issue where the outlets would not revert to their previous power state after the outage. This was particularly frustrating as it required manual intervention to restore power to all devices.

After some research and experimentation, I discovered that setting up routines using Alexa and IFTTT could be a viable solution. I created a scene in the Geeni app that turns all outlets back on and linked it to a routine that triggers after a short delay following power restoration. This automation has significantly reduced the hassle of manually resetting each outlet.

I’d love to hear from others who have faced similar challenges. How did you automate your power outage recovery process? Have you found any particularly effective tools or apps for this purpose? I’m always on the lookout for new ideas to improve my setup.

Additionally, I’d like to share a tip for anyone looking to implement similar automation: start with a small number of devices to test the system before scaling up. This approach helps identify any potential issues early on and ensures a smoother transition to full automation.

Thank you for reading, and I look forward to your insights and experiences!
