I recently set up a system where Google Calendar events trigger specific actions in my OpenHAB setup. Setup: I used the iCalendar Binding in OpenHAB to connect my Google Calendar. It took a bit of tweaking, but once it was set up, it worked like magic.

Configuration: I added event details like device names and commands directly in my calendar. For instance, if I add an event called “Bedtime,” the system knows to turn off the bedroom lights and lower the thermostat.

Rules: I created rules that check the calendar every hour. If an event is upcoming, the system executes the associated command. It even handles rescheduling if the event time changes!
The best part is how customizable this setup is. I can add as many events as I want, and each one can trigger a different action. It’s perfect for managing routines without constantly adjusting settings manually.
