Avoid battery-powered devices

If you’re just getting started with a smart home, one piece of advice I’d give is to avoid battery-powered devices whenever possible.

They may seem very convenient at first, and manufacturers often promise months of battery life, but sooner or later batteries start running low, devices become unreliable, and you end up constantly replacing or recharging them.

That’s usually when you start regretting not having chosen a wired or permanently powered option from the beginning.

Some wired devices also offer more features (because they don’t have to save power to run for months). For example, wired doorbells can record 24/7. Wired occupancy sensors can use mmWave constantly, which means faster response than PIR or hybrid sensors (like FP300).

Anybody used a large power bank for an Aqara camera away from the house? Looking to get camera on shed 100 feet away. Has WiFi but no ac power

Well I do not know anyone that is using an power bank to power the camera but you could use one if gives you the right V and A for the camera to operate well.from what I know all aqara cameras are powered by 5V and 1/2A but make sure that the power bank to be inside protected by the weather.but in my opinion I think you could use an 50m cable to power it up and is less expensive since your distance is 30m more or less.but how do you have internet on such distance from your house?more the connection of your WiFi need to be strong there so you can access the camera without problems.

You can always try it by buying from Amazon all and give it a try and if you are not happy with or they do not work as you want you can return it that’s the best thing on Amazon.

I have an eero outdoor running off Poe. That gives me WiFi. Mostly to keep track of wildlife.

Perfect then buy an good power bank and an Aqara camera witch both you can find on Amazon and see if you can it to work as you want it.i suggest ether the G350 or the G5 as this are the latest from Aqara

I do think there is definitely a time and place for battery-operated devices such as door and window sensors, and I wish more devices such as presence sensors were battery-operated, as it can be a struggle to get power to them when they’re placed for optimal use.
