Basement Lighting Automation with Motion Sensors

Hi everyone! I’m working on setting up an automation system in my basement and I’ve come across a few challenges that I’d love to get some advice on. I’ve got a Devolo motion sensor and I’m trying to use it to check if the lights are still on in the basement. The idea is that when motion is detected, the system waits for 10 minutes and then checks the illumination. If it’s brighter than 5%, I want to send a notification.

So far, I’ve managed to get most of the settings to work, but there’s this one value (value 6) that I can’t set to 0. I’ve tried reconfiguring it multiple times, resetting the device, and even waking it up to send the updated values, but nothing seems to work. It’s a bit frustrating because it’s such a small detail, but it’s holding me back from getting the automation just right.

Another issue I’m facing is with reading the temperature and illumination values. Depending on how I set it up, sometimes the values only update when motion is detected, or they update sporadically—like every 12 minutes for 30 minutes and then not again until another motion is detected. Right now, with the settings I have, the temperature updates every minute, but the illumination values aren’t updating at all. I’ve even tried using automations to force an update, but nothing happens. This makes it impossible for me to reliably check if the basement lights are on.

I’ve heard from others in forums that they’ve had similar problems with Devolo devices. Has anyone here managed to get their motion sensors working smoothly? I’m also wondering if there’s a way to update the firmware on my device. I see there’s a newer version available, but I can’t seem to find a direct download link. If anyone has the firmware file lying around, I’d be really grateful if they could share it.

On a positive note, I’ve been really impressed with how the Govee app integrates with AI-generated images for DIY lighting projects. It’s a fun way to visualize and create custom lighting setups. I’m hoping to combine this creativity with a reliable automation system in the basement.

Any tips or suggestions would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!
