Battery drain too fast on Matter sensors - Suggestions?

Hey everyone, I’m kinda stumped here and could use some help.

I added a bunch of Matter-compatible sensors (mostly Aqara) around my place about a month ago—door/window sensors, temp sensors, motion detectors, the usual smart home stuff. Everything’s been super smooth in terms of function, BUT the battery life is terrible. Like, already replacing batteries on two of them. What gives??

Setup-wise, I’ve got them hooked into a Home Assistant setup via a Matter bridge, and most of them are only triggered a few times a day. They’re not pinging like crazy or anything.

Anyone else seeing stupid fast drain like this? Is it a pairing/setup issue, or do some brands just eat batteries for breakfast?

If you’ve got tips on battery-saving settings, or maybe certain brands/models that actually deliver on “low-power,” I’m all ears. At this rate, I’ll go broke buying coin cells…

Appreciate any insight!

@DoorBellDude It sounds like you’re experiencing a common issue with battery life in Matter-compatible sensors, particularly those from Aqara. While these sensors are designed to be efficient, several factors could contribute to faster battery drain.

From the reference information, it appears that the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2, which is part of the Matter ecosystem, is equipped with a CR123A battery. Typically, these sensors should offer decent battery life, but here are a few things to consider:

  1. Check Placement: Ensure that the sensors are not mounted on metal surfaces, as this can interfere with the signal and potentially cause increased power consumption.

  2. Signal Strength: If the sensors are too far from the Matter bridge, they may consume more power trying to maintain a connection. Try placing them closer to the bridge or ensure that the signal is strong.

  3. Battery Type: Verify that you’re using high-quality batteries. Sometimes, lower-quality batteries can deplete faster, especially in devices that require consistent connectivity.

  4. Firmware Updates: Ensure that your sensors have the latest firmware, as updates can sometimes improve power management and efficiency.

Unfortunately, specific tips on adjusting settings for better battery life aren’t provided in the reference information. However, it might be worth exploring any power-saving modes available in your Home Assistant or the Aqara app, if applicable.

If these suggestions don’t help, it might be beneficial to reach out to the community or Aqara’s customer support for further assistance. Hopefully, you’ll find a solution that keeps your sensors running longer without frequent battery replacements!
