Hey everyone, I wanted to share some of my recent experiences with setting up and monitoring my smart home devices. I’ve been experimenting with battery-powered devices and camera setups, and I thought I’d walk through my journey in case it helps anyone else!
First, I’ve been working on a way to monitor the battery levels of my various smart devices without relying on the built-in low battery alerts. I stumbled upon a fantastic solution where you can create a loop that checks the battery percentage of all your gBatteries group items and triggers an action, like a Pushover notification, when the battery level drops below a certain threshold. It’s been incredibly useful for keeping track of devices that don’t have the low battery functionality enabled. If anyone is interested in setting this up, I’d be happy to share the rules I’ve created!
Speaking of smart devices, I’ve also been tinkering with my home security setup. I have three cameras connected to my Google Wifi network, and I recently added a fourth one through an Arlo hub. I was curious if switching the Arlo camera to the Google Wifi network would offer any benefits, like better integration with other Google services. I’ve heard mixed things, so I’d love to hear if anyone has experience with this setup!
Another thing I’ve been exploring is automating my lighting system. I’ve been using a combination of motion sensors and light switches, but I wanted to add a layer where the lights stay on when the fan is running. After some trial and error, I found a way to link the fan’s state to the light controls, ensuring the room stays illuminated as long as the fan is on. It’s a small tweak, but it’s made a big difference in my daily routine.
On a lighter note, I’ve also been enjoying experimenting with different lighting effects for special occasions. Whether it’s setting up Valentine’s Day lights or creating vibrant scenes for parties, there’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing my home come to life with colorful illumination. It’s a great way to add a personal touch to everyday moments!
If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing their smart home setup, I’d love to hear them. Happy tinkering everyone! ![]()
