I’ve been using a variety of tablets mounted on walls as control points for my home automation system. From iPads to Samsung Tabs, these devices have served me well over the years. However, I’ve noticed an issue that I’m eager to address: battery swelling. Over time, the batteries in these devices swell, sometimes causing the screen to bulge or even pop out of the frame. This is particularly concerning since I leave them on and charging 24/7, which is tough on lithium-ion batteries.
While I don’t mind the constant charging since they’re always plugged in, the physical damage caused by swelling batteries is a problem. I’ve started replacing batteries just to prevent devices from breaking. My current thought is to implement a timer on the charger—letting the device run on battery for an hour each day might reduce swelling. I’m not sure if this will work, though, and I’m eager to hear what others have done to tackle this issue. Have you found a reliable solution to prevent battery swelling in your devices?
