Best Aqara doorbell

I currently have the Aqara G400
Doorbell and before that I had the G4 which I loved.

I’ve had nothing but issues with the G400 (network errors, slow HomeKit notifications, delayed notifications when someone presses the doorbell, and voice/ live feed sync issues)

I’m thinking about swapping it out for the G410 but I started to wonder what everyone else’s thoughts was with the G400 and what Aqara doorbell everyone else thinks is the best one?

I issue it purely as a doorbell and want a good live feed when speaking to someone (not seeing lips move before the voice ext) and quick notifications

@johnsond28 If you’re mainly using it as a doorbell (fast press alerts + smooth two‑way talk), your experience points more to a connectivity/stream path issue than “G400 is bad by design.”

A couple of things from the specs/compatibility side that may help frame the decision:

  • G400 is designed for stability on the network: it’s Aqara’s first always-on doorbell camera and supports wired power/PoE, plus dual‑band Wi‑Fi 6 / Ethernet options—so in a good install it should be one of the more stable models rather than less.
  • HomeKit Secure Video support is one of its key strengths, so if your goal is “best HomeKit experience,” G400 is positioned strongly on paper.
  • Platform behavior can differ: for example, doorbell press notifications are supported in Apple Home, while Google Home doesn’t support doorbell press notifications for this device in the same way. So your “fast doorbell press” experience will depend a lot on the platform/app you’re relying on day-to-day.

Given you’re seeing network errors + delayed HomeKit notifications + audio/video sync, I’d personally troubleshoot the install before swapping hardware:

  • If you’re on Wi‑Fi, consider testing the wired/Ethernet (or PoE) route if your setup allows—this model is built to take advantage of it.
  • Since you mentioned HomeKit specifically, also validate whether the delays happen in Aqara Home vs Apple Home, because the “doorbell press → notification” pipeline can differ by platform.

On the G410 vs G400 question: I don’t have any official G410 behavior details in the reference info you provided here, so I can’t compare them accurately.

Hi, it’s strange, works fine for me G400 (WiFi). And I only use it within Aqara Home.

The G400 is the best Aqara Doorbell to date, it’s what the G4 should have been from the start but things were not done cooking at the time. The G410 is a waste (in my opinion) to fill the time gap between the two devices.

Anyway, it reads like a WiFi issue and apparently for one reason or another your G4 seems to have had a better WiFi signal.

I would work on the WiFi issue before swaping out the Doorbell hardware. If you can’t improve the WiFi then maybe consider the Doorbell.

Either way the G400 is a better hardware device with more options and more of a future. (in my opinion only).

I use a mesh network. Do you use the same ?
I’ve been speaking to Aqara support and they think it maybe a faulty device so may swap for another G400 first .

My mesh network is set only to the 2.5ghz for the doorbell so it’s not swapping between the two and the signal is currently -3.8 which is amazing .

I still get 3 or 4 network errors before it connects, i still hear the person who presses the doorbell before lips move (which is so frustrating) and HomeKit notifications take 2-3 mins to come though after the doorbell is pressed

-3.8 is awesome and it would not hurt to swap it out for another G400. If that does not fix the issue then you can move forward with a different model device if that is still on your mind.

Take it off the 2.5ghz only and just let the doorbell do it’s thing.

Just changed the mesh router to allow the doorbell to go from 2.5ghz to both 2.5 and 5ghz.

I’ll keep you updated once I’ve swapped the doorbell out
