This problem isn’t limited to Aqara, and in fact, they are one of the better ones. Nonetheless, searching for a matter-capable device will lead to many search results that are NOT matter capable, some which are Partially matter capable, but not really (e.g. the Hub-M3 advanced matter gateway functions or the Shelly Presence Gen 4), many which are dual-matter/zigbee but implement a tiny subset of their features on matter and require zigbee for the full feature range.
CSA doesn’t do you any favors because their matter certification database includes a great deal of vaporware, including products that were certified for matter prior to release and then released without any matter capabilities whatsoever (I’m looking at you TP-Link Kasa KS240).
If you’re looking for matter-based devices (and you probably want to be insisting on matter as much as possible these days because it’s the one protocol that will allow your devices to function with virtually ANY core system you choose and will allow you to keep your data local instead of donating it to vendors to exploit as they choose), research the device very very carefully and make sure it exports all of the variables you care about over matter. Then test it rigorously while you can still return it.
Hopefully this will get better over time, but for now, it’s the wild west and caveat emptor.
