Millimeter-wave radar products like the Aqara FP2 rely heavily on proper installation. When set up right, it’s a total game-changer – precise positioning, zone triggering, and it can even replace multiple sensors! But if you skip proper debugging before use, you might run into unexpected issues. Common user complaints like “ghost detections,” missed alerts, or failure to detect “no one” can all be fixed with the right setup. Let’s make your FP2 work like a pro!
Want to get the best detection performance from your Aqara FP2? Follow these steps to install and debug it easily – no more inaccurate detection headaches!
1. Choose the Right Installation Location & Angle
Wall Mount (Side Installation)
Install the sensor in the center of a wall, such as above your living room TV cabinet or sofa wall. We recommend a height of 1.8–2.2 meters. After mounting, adjust the angle up/down by hand so it faces the area where people move most. This way, the radar will cover both sitting and standing heights, making the detection range more effective.
Pro tip: Keep the device logo horizontal, and make sure the front faces the area you want to monitor!
Corner Mount
The radar has a 120° field of view (FOV). To avoid blind spots, mounting it in a corner is a great choice. Install it in a living room corner at a height of 2.2–2.4 meters, then tilt it downward so it targets the main activity area (covering both sitting and standing heights). Corner mounting expands the horizontal detection angle and reduces blind spots that might occur with wall mounting.
Remember: Aim the device toward the center line of the corner!
2. Avoid These Installation Spots
Steer clear of mounting the sensor facing:
- Large metal surfaces, glass, or other highly reflective materials (they mess with radar signals).
- Areas with air flow, like air conditioner vents, air purifiers, fans, or curtains.
Strong interference in these environments will seriously affect the millimeter-wave radar’s accuracy.
3. Key Steps for Zone Calibration
①Mark “Edge Zones”
Open the Aqara app and mark areas you don’t need to monitor as “Edge Zones.” This stops false alerts like “ghost detections” caused by reflection interference.
② Mark Entrances/Exits
In the app, tag all entrances and exits in your monitored zone. This helps the sensor quickly detect “someone present” or “no one present” status, drastically reducing false or missed alerts.
③ Mark Interference Sources
If there are devices like oscillating fans or motorized curtains in the area, mark them as “Interference Sources” in the app. This prevents false “someone present” alerts triggered by these moving objects.
④ Run “AI Spatial Background Learning”
After installation, make sure no one is in the detection range, then run “AI Spatial Background Learning” in the app. This lets the device learn your space’s energy patterns for super accurate detection!
⑤ Adjust Presence Detection Sensitivity
You can adjust sensitivity in the app. Higher sensitivity makes it easier to trigger and maintain “someone present” status – perfect for areas where people move little, like beds or sofas.
4. Test After Installation
Once installed and debugged, always do a real-world test! Ask someone to walk in and out of the detection area to check if the sensor counts people correctly.
If detection is inaccurate:
- First, check the environment and remove interference.
- If that doesn’t work, try a new installation location.
- Keep adjusting until you get perfect results!
Follow these steps, and your Aqara FP2 will deliver pinpoint detection every time. Enjoy!
