Boosting Heating Efficiency with PC Fans: A Winter Success Story

Winter has always been a challenging time for keeping our home warm, especially with the rising energy costs. This year, I decided to take matters into my own hands and experiment with a creative solution to improve our heating efficiency. I came across an article suggesting the use of PC fans to accelerate heat distribution from our radiator. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try!

The Setup

I measured the space around our radiator and opted for three ARCTIC P12 PWM PST fans. These fans are not only quiet (0.3 Sone) but also provide a respectable airflow of 95.7 m³/h. I attached them to the lower open side of the radiator using magnets and connected them to a 12V power supply controlled via Homey.

The Results

The outcome was nothing short of impressive! I conducted a test to measure the temperature increase over 15 minutes with and without the fans:

  • Without fans: 20.4°C → 21.2°C → 22.9°C
  • With fans: 20.9°C → 22.8°C → 24.1°C

This simple modification not only sped up the heating process but also contributed to more even temperature distribution throughout the room. It’s a small change that made a big difference!

Why I Love This Solution

  • Cost-Effective: The fans were affordable and the project kept costs low.
  • Energy Efficiency: By reducing heating time, we’re using less energy overall.
  • Customizable: The setup is easy to adjust and can be expanded for larger spaces.

If you’re looking for a DIY project to improve your home’s heating efficiency, I highly recommend giving this a try! It’s a fun way to stay warm and save on energy bills this winter. :brain:暖气
