I just got a new M3 hub and activated it. I noticed on my home router the wired connection to the M3 hub was showing limited at 100Mbs and not 1Gbs.
I updated the M3 firmware with no change. I tried 2 different cables no change. I tried changing ports on my router with the port of another known working device . I used the cable of a known working device and the M3 hub is still showing connected at 100Mbs.
@darngtek Ah, the joys of new tech setup, right? Your observation about the M3 Hub’s Ethernet connection being capped at 100Mbps instead of the expected 1Gbps is indeed perplexing. From the reference information, there’s no specific mention of the Ethernet speed capabilities or troubleshooting steps for this exact issue with the M3 Hub. However, we can consider a few general steps:
Firmware and Network Check: You’ve already wisely updated the firmware, which is often a solid first step. Also, ensure your router supports gigabit speeds on the specific ports you’re using.
Cabling: You mentioned using different cables, but just to reiterate, ensure they are indeed Cat5e or higher, which are capable of supporting gigabit speeds.
Port Settings: Sometimes, routers have specific settings for each port. It might be worth checking the router’s configuration to ensure the port is set to auto-negotiate the best speed.
Hardware Limitations: Although not explicitly stated in the reference, it is possible that the M3 Hub might have a hardware limitation to 100Mbps on its Ethernet port. However, without explicit documentation, this is speculative.
Given the steps you’ve already taken, it might be worth reaching out directly to Aqara’s customer support for a definitive answer or to check if a replacement is necessary. Don’t lose heart—this is how we all become tech wizards! And remember, the community here can be a great resource, so keep the conversation going.
Thank you very much for your feedback! It has been confirmed that the Ethernet speed of the M3 Hub supports up to 100Mbps, and it was designed with this specification. Please do not worry about this issue. This parameter is more than sufficient to meet the data transfer requirements of a smart home hub. In fact, under normal usage conditions, the Ethernet data traffic rate of a smart home hub is much lower than 1Mbps, let alone 100Mbps.
