Broadlink RM PRO+ Solution for Controlling Blinds via Alexa

Hello everyone! I wanted to share a fantastic solution I found for controlling my blinds using Alexa without the need for the expensive RFX433 module. I stumbled upon this method and thought it would be great to share it with the community in case others are looking for an affordable alternative.

The Problem

I had been using traditional methods to control my blinds, but I wanted to integrate them seamlessly with my smart home setup. The RFX433 module was a bit out of my budget, so I started searching for alternatives that could provide the same functionality without the high cost.

The Solution

After some research, I discovered the Broadlink RM PRO+ device, which is available for around $50 USD. This little gadget has been a game-changer for me. Here’s how I set it up:

Step 1: Pairing the Blinds

  1. I used the IHC app to add my blinds as a custom appliance.
  2. I programmed the Broadlink RM PRO+ to learn the radio signal from the remote control that originally came with the blinds.
  3. I created two scenes in the IHC app: one for opening the blinds and another for closing them.

Step 2: Integration with Alexa

  1. I logged into the Alexa app and added the Broadlink skill to my account.
  2. I linked my Broadlink account with Alexa, which allowed me to discover the scenes I had created.
  3. In the Alexa app, I set up two routines: one to open the blinds and another to close them. These routines trigger the scenes created in the IHC app.

Now, all I have to do is say, “Alexa, open bedroom blind,” and it works perfectly! The setup was much simpler than I initially feared, and the cost was a fraction of what the RFX433 module would have been.

Why This Solution Stands Out

  • Affordability: The Broadlink RM PRO+ is a cost-effective alternative to the RFX433 module.
  • Ease of Use: The setup process is straightforward, and the integration with Alexa is seamless.
  • Customization: The ability to create custom scenes and routines allows for a tailored smart home experience.

I’m really happy with how this solution has worked out for me, and I hope it can help others looking for an affordable way to integrate their blinds into their smart home setup. If anyone has questions or needs assistance with their setup, feel free to reach out!
