Recently, I embarked on an exciting journey to set up my very own Home Assistant ecosystem. After months of research and planning, I’m thrilled to share my hardware setup and gather feedback from the community. This is just the beginning, and I’m already looking forward to expanding it further!
The Core: Beelink Mini PC
At the heart of my setup is the Beelink Mini PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor. With 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, it’s a powerhouse running Home Assistant OS on bare metal. While it might seem like overkill, I wanted something future-proof that could handle the growing demands of my smart home.
AI and Security: Google Coral Accelerator
For my security needs, I’ve integrated the Google Coral USB accelerator. This allows me to run Frigate efficiently, ensuring smooth video processing and object detection from my security cameras. It’s been a game-changer for handling motion detection and alerts.
Zigbee Connectivity: Home Assistant Sky Connect
To keep things seamless and support the HA community, I opted for the Home Assistant Sky Connect for Zigbee. It’s been reliable with my Aqara sensors, providing consistent connectivity without any hiccups.
Sensors: Aqara Excellence
I’ve installed a mix of Aqara door/window sensors, motion sensors, and temperature/humidity sensors. They’re easy to set up, affordable, and integrate perfectly with Home Assistant. It’s great to have such reliable devices monitoring my home.
Cameras: Reolink Series
For surveillance, I went with Reolink cameras. The Reolink Floodlight PoE camera at the front provides excellent coverage with its 180° view and bright floodlights. The Reolink Video Doorbell adds convenience and security at the entrance, while the RLC-520A cameras keep an eye on the rest of my property. They might not be the most expensive options, but they deliver solid performance and value for money.
Alarm and Interface: PoE Android Tablet
Rounding out my setup is a 10-inch PoE Android tablet. It serves as my central alarm panel and interface, running Frigate, Alarmo, and other integrations. It’s my go-to for monitoring and managing my smart home on the go.
Future Plans
This is just the start! I’m eager to explore Wyoming protocol for more advanced integrations and expand my system with greenhouse controls, outdoor lighting, and more. I’d love to hear your thoughts on my current setup and any suggestions for improvement!
