As I embark on building my smart home, I wanted to share some of the lessons I’ve learned and seek advice from the community. For someone new to this, it can be overwhelming to decide where to start, especially when considering the mix of Z-Wave and Wi-Fi devices.
One of the first decisions I made was choosing a reliable hub. After researching, I settled on the Netgear Orbi RBK50 for its robust Wi-Fi coverage and ability to handle multiple devices. However, I’ve encountered some challenges with certain devices, like my Wyze bulbs and sensors, which have been a bit temperamental. I’d love to hear if others have similar issues or tips for ensuring consistent connectivity.
Another consideration has been mixing devices from different brands. I’m leaning towards Yale locks for security and Leviton dimmers for lighting, but I’m curious if others have successfully integrated these with Amazon Alexa or another system.
I’d also love to hear about experiences with smart plugs and outdoor lighting solutions, as I’m still exploring options in these areas. Any recommendations or cautionary tales would be incredibly helpful!
Looking forward to hearing from the community and learning more about the best practices for a seamless smart home setup. Thanks in advance for your insights!
