Can Aqara work with other smart home brands? Experiences?

Hey everyone, I could really use some honest takes here.

So I’ve just dipped my toes into the smart home world with a few Aqara devices (motion sensors, temp sensors, and the P1 contact sensors). Loving the reliability so far, but here’s the deal — I’m using Alexa around the house and also already have some Philips Hue lights and a Nest thermostat that I really don’t want to replace.

Has anyone here successfully managed to get Aqara to play nice with other brands? Like, can I trigger Hue lights based on an Aqara door sensor opening? Or control Nest based on Aqara’s temp/humidity readings?

I’m running everything through Alexa for now, so if you’ve managed to set up routines that mix and match devices from different ecosystems, I’d love to hear how you’ve done it. Any must-know tips or weird limitations?

Also — is Home Assistant worth the dive for all this? I keep seeing it mentioned but not sure how complicated it gets.
