Cannot bind the M3 hub to the Aqara app

Hello
I just bough a new M3 hub. But what ever I try I Can not bind it to the Aqara app. it get stuck in a loop when it scans the QR.
*I tried both with an iPhone and with an Android phone.

  • creating a bridge to Apple home works fine. But I don’t have an Apple home hub so I want to use the M3 only within the Aqara app.
any ideas…? [hours of trying and asking chatGPT to search didn’t help]

  • I already have a working network in another home [different county] using the [older] M1s gen2 Hub. So I have some experience with the Aqara app.

thanks a lot
Akash

I suppose you are scanning the Matter Qr code ? In which case you would get a loop. If that is the case. Try scanning the aqara one to add it to the app. You need to hide the other code so it can’t read them.

This has to do with there not being any coordinators. And it asks you to scan the coordinator.

I hope this helps.

Hi, @jicamas_parkour1e which of the both codes are you scanning? Is the M3 blinking yellow ? Is there any notification shown when binding fails?

thanks @rara18 and @DEChrisE

I was scanning the QR sticker on the manual .

the M3 has 3 different QRs on it [2 on the button side and a very small one on the other side.

scanning the Aqara one on the m3 body gives a: ‘The accessory is not supported’ error

Yes the yellow light is blinking .

My suspicion is that my account [on the Aqara app] is currently set to Mainland China. [because it is working with my older set up on ms1 that was bought on AliExpress and was a China region only device ]. And now the M3 is an international [it speaks English]. and perhaps it can’t bind to a China region…? but I can’t change the region because I’ll loose my older setup [that is in a different house in a different country ]

Does this makes any sense?

Now i’m trying to test this by registering a new account with a new Email… and the correct region for the M3, a strange problem… the verification code takes about an hour to arrive in my email, and the code is only valid for 5 minutes so this too constantly fails. [my internet connection is fine]

Yes, exactly !
If you are on China server, the international version of M3 doesn’t work!
You need to change to another server or get a Chinese M3

Thanks.
That makes sense .

Any idea why I’m not getting [or getting in a timely manner] the verification code from the app.
Trying to setup a new account on a different phone with another email and with the correct region.
but without that verification code… I can’t sign up

Hello @jicamas_parkour1e
Your global M3 won’t work in the Mainland China region. It’s better to use a server for your country. Change the region and your M3 will be added. You can use M1s with the Mainland China settings as a Matter Bridge for your native region.

is there a way to define different servers [regions] to diffrent Homes .
so I could keep my “old home” in that other country on the Chinese server. and use the M3 I just bought in the correct region

thanks.
can you please explain how do I do this? [I have no physical access ATM to this M1s as it’s in a different country from where I currently am

Exactly!
It’s possible to change between servers- it’s just uncomfortable to logout and login for this procedure :grimacing:

You need to take the matter code in the m1s settings in the mainland China region

then change the region and in the add matter devices tab, enter this code (you need m3).

thanks a lot.
one more Q before I try this: when attempting to change the region , a warning comes up that I’ll loose all data that is on the Chinese server. But does this means the data is still kept on the server, and once I bridge the Ms1 to the M3 it will still function [with all it’s existing sensors and settings]. Or to ask in a different way, if this bridging doesn’t work, and I go back to the China server, will my old data be retained there? or is it being erased once I change server? [which is what the warning implies ]

Everything will be saved, just don’t delete anything from the Chinese region and everything will be fine.

I asked ChatGTP : “I have a M3 hub here. and I have a Ms1 hub in a different country. Can I bridge my M3 to the Ms1 [over the internet obviously]”

ChatGPT said:

The short answer is: no, you can’t bridge your Aqara M3 to your Aqara M1S over the internet.

then it goes on explaining … But is it right? [I trust it a bit more when it says No then when it says yes]

This definitely works, it’s been tested and proven time and time again. You shouldn’t trust GPT on such matters, as he doesn’t understand anything about this or how it works. Statistically, he gives a lot of made-up answers.

Matter bridge from CN—> to another region works 100%

Would you please explain: , after binding the M3. [new region] where do I add the Ms1 Matter code?
the saved code time out is soon…:). found it Thanks. Trying to connect…

Unfortunately it Fails. It does says [while trying to connect] that the device [Ms1 Hub] the Matter center [the M3] and my phone must be under the same LAN coverage as close as possible. But the device is 9000 kilometers from the M3 and my phone.

Perhaps I didn’t do the right thing? Wondering what am I missing here?

Sorry, I probably misunderstood you. Of course, for this to work, m3 EU and m1s CN must be on the same local network.

Thanks. and Sorry. I’m not a very good communicator .

My only [Temp] solution I guess is to sign as another user with a different email. [I have an iPad here that can be used to monitor the Ms1 CN home]

The weird/frustrating things with doing this is that, when making a new sign-in the confirmation code sent to the email takes forever [if at all] to arrive. and the code is valid for 5 minutes … I tried many times.
is this an issue with their network or is there a know workaround/ solution ?
