I have purchased a few FP2 sensors and I’m having little luck getting them setup. After a lot of backwards and forwards I was able to get one sensor into Apple Home, but I can’t get any of the others.
Setup:
2.4Ghz Wifi - no special characters in password
iPhone 15
Aqara Home App version 6.0.0
Steps taken:
Power up FP2. Hold button until yellow rapid blinking light
Scan the QR code. It recognises the QR code with the message ‘setting up device’. The light changes from flashing yellow to flashing blue.
After some time I get an error message “Unable to Add Accessory. Authentication Failed”
I have tried the following trouble shooting steps
Use the code on the device to add it. Doesn’t work
Use a different USB cable that came with the devices
Factory reset the devices by multiple presses of the button
Reboot my Wifi Router (UDM SE, 2.4GHz network)
Delete and reinstall the Aqara Home App
I have raised a ticket with support around a week ago with all this information (+ serial numbers etc) however other than sending me the standard installation instructions I haven’t had any reply from them in over a week.
I haven’t been able to find a solution to this issue on various social media platforms (Facebook community groups, Reddit etc).
Any help is really appreciated before I have to get these sent back to Amazon.
Sorry I should have mentioned that in my original post but I’ve tried that many times. I’ve also noticed that often pressing the button 10 times or so doesn’t cause a factory reset. Is it possible these devices are defective ?
So to do something as simple as changing your wifi, you need to remove and re-add the FP2 sensor. That’s problem number 1. I have cheap light bulbs that have a “change wifi” feature. Problem number 2 is, as soon as the lovely Aqara app tries to authenticate with Apple Home Kit, it forces a connection to the FP2 wifi “lumi-motion-xxxxx”. This connection obviously has no internet connectivity and thus fails authentication. I am some random moron, not a developer and I can tell you where it’s going wrong. Problem number 3 is that it forces you to join it to Apple Home. WHY?! Just because I have an iPhone, doesn’t mean I use Apple Home. There should be a “Skip this step” option. Again, I have cheap Chinese lightbulbs that do this.
Why is it so difficult to figure it out. Fix this now. My sensor is a paperweight at this point.
Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately still doesn’t work. Deleting everything and redownloading everything did give me an option to add a new home, which I didn’t have before, but unfortunately trying to add the sensor results in the same result. I’ve done it now around 11-14 times. Aqara needs to fix their app, which is the root of the problem.
And to make matters much worse their technical support is pretty much non existent! I’ve sent them all the information on their support ticket and not only have they asked me for all the information again, their only solutions offered are to keep repeating all the steps I told them at th start that I had tried.
I’ve been using Home Automation kit for years and never experienced a product that is so difficult to set up. I’ve given up for now. Too many hours going round in circles …. So far I’ve got a number of very expensive paperweights.
Overall I have to say the Aqara experience has not been good at all. I have bought a number of Tuya based products over the years and never had this level of difficulty.
No one from Aqara can explain why it just doesn’t work as advertised and it seems they don’t really care either.
Same here. New FP2 Sensor can’t be added to the Aqar App due to network error. As said before, once it connects to the Sensor Wifi, it loses internet connectivity. No wonder there is a network error.
Aqara really needs to fix this, but I doubt it will happen soon.
I will give the Meross MS600 and Switchbot Sensor a try. Maybe th will work.
