I’d like to share my experience with automation using Aqara motion sensors and a Roborock vacuum cleaner – compatible with the Xiaomi app.
I have two tomcats at home, one of them being a Bengal, so he’s quite wild. Unfortunately, he’s wild enough that it also shows when it comes to using the litter box. I’d been thinking for a long time about how to solve this. I had exhausted all options for regular cleaning, because the cat doesn’t use the litter box at exactly predictable times 
So, I was looking for a motion sensor that would be small and have a long battery life.
I ended up placing an Aqara motion sensor inside the litter box – fixed it with adhesive (Mamut glue) – and set the trigger so that every time motion is detected, it waits for a 3-minute timeout, and then cleans a 4 m² area around the litter box. Believe it or not, it works! 
What will happen the day the cat misses the litter box, I’d rather not speculate, but so far it’s working fine
