Choosing Between Linear Garage Door Controllers and MyQ Gateway

I recently found myself in a bit of a dilemma when trying to integrate my LiftMaster garage door openers with MyQ and Security 2.0+. I purchased two Linear Garage Door Controllers from Lowe’s a while back, hoping they’d be a good fit. However, upon installation, I discovered they aren’t fully compatible with my garage door openers due to the Security 2.0+ feature. After some research, I came across two potential solutions, but I’m not sure which one would be best for my setup.

Option 1: Using a MyQ Gateway
This seems like the more straightforward option. The MyQ Gateway would allow me to control both of my garage door openers without any extra wiring or soldering. However, I’d need to purchase two tilt sensors to ensure SmartThings can monitor the door’s status. While this approach minimizes hassle, it does require additional purchases, which adds to the overall cost.

Option 2: Modifying Linear Controllers
On the other hand, I could wire the Linear Controllers to a spare push-button garage door opener used inside a vehicle. This setup would allow me to control each garage door independently, and since the controllers already come with a tilt sensor, I wouldn’t need to buy any extra components. This option does involve some soldering, but it seems like it would integrate seamlessly with SmartThings.

I’m curious to hear the community’s thoughts on these options. While the MyQ Gateway might be easier to install, I’m leaning towards the Linear Controllers for their compatibility with SmartThings. Does anyone have experience with either setup? Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
