Chronograph App Guide for Morning Dimming Flow

Hi all, I wanted to share my experience with creating a morning dimming flow using the Chronograph app. After struggling to understand how the app works, I finally got it figured out and wanted to share my setup in case it helps others.

First, I set up a virtual switch for my kid’s bathroom lights. I used an Iris motion sensor and Z-Wave switches to control the lights. The goal was to turn off the lights after 5 minutes of inactivity but without them turning on automatically, which can be startling for kids.

I also wanted to automatically turn on the exhaust fan if the temperature sensor detects a certain level. This has been a bit tricky because my kids sometimes leave the door open or forget to turn the fan on. To handle this, I set up a rule where the fan turns on if the temperature exceeds a specific threshold.

Here’s how I did it:

  1. Motion Sensor Setup: I configured the motion sensor to trigger after 5 minutes of inactivity. This ensures the lights turn off without any sudden surprises.

  2. Temperature Threshold: I set up a rule where if the temperature sensor detects a certain level, the exhaust fan activates automatically.

  3. Virtual Switch: I created a virtual switch to control the lights and fan, making it easier to manage everything from one place.

  4. Chronograph Flow: Using the Chronograph app, I set up a dimming flow that slowly increases the brightness of the lights in the morning. This has been a game-changer for waking up gradually.

I hope this helps someone else who’s trying to figure out how to use the Chronograph app for similar setups. If anyone has questions or suggestions, feel free to reach out!

Cheers,
