Hey everyone, I recently installed the Global Cache GC100-12 plugin and was excited to start controlling my devices via RS232. However, I quickly ran into an issue where I couldn’t figure out how to send commands to the RS232 ports. I managed to send IR commands without a problem, but when I tried to use the serial option, there were no command options available. This was pretty frustrating, but I decided to dive in and figure it out!
After some research and trial and error, I discovered that the plugin requires specific configurations to send RS232 commands. Here’s what I learned and how I got it working:
-
Understanding the Plugin Settings: The first step was to understand how the plugin handles RS232 commands. I realized that unlike IR commands, RS232 requires a different setup. I had to manually configure the serial port settings within the plugin.
-
Configuring Serial Port Parameters: I found that the plugin allows you to specify the serial port, baud rate, and other parameters. I set these according to my device’s specifications and saved the configuration.
-
Testing the Connection: Once the settings were configured, I tested the connection by sending a simple command. The device responded, which was a huge relief!
-
Automating Commands: To make things easier, I created a small script that sends predefined RS232 commands at specific intervals. This has been incredibly helpful for automating tasks around my home.
If anyone else is struggling with RS232 commands in the Global Cache plugin, I’d be happy to share my configuration settings or troubleshoot together. It’s a powerful feature once you get the hang of it!
Happy automating! ![]()
