I bought the U400 specifically to use with the Auto Unlock feature on iPhone and Apple Watch, and that’s setup and working perfectly (after having to buy a HomePod mini). Is it possible to also have it work with Alexa and Google Home? I have an Echo Show 8 3rd Gen, but I wasn’t able to use that to set it up in Apple Home even though it’s a Thread Matter router.
Hello , you can add U400 to Alexa/Google Home too. Since U400 is already in Apple Home, you can generate a new Matter QR/code in Apple Home for Alexa to use.
-
In Apple Home (iPhone)
-
Open the Home app
-
Tap your U400 lock
-
Tap the gear (
) settings -
Turn on Turn On Pairing Mode / Allow Pairing
-
A Matter QR/code appears → keep this screen open
-
In Alexa app
-
Devices → Add Device → Matter
-
Scan the QR from Apple Home (not the lock’s original code)
-
Finish setup → U400 shows in Alexa
*Your Apple Home Auto Unlock stays working
Tips: first make sure all your devices are updated to the latest firmware, then connect your Echo and HomePod mini to the same Wi‑Fi network to ensure a stable Thread network. Since your U400 is already working properly in Apple Home, the Echo can act as a local control node to improve coordination across multiple devices.
#9!! I bet that’s what my problem was, I kept trying to scan the original lock again! Is it possible to do it the opposite direction? If I first connect it to Alexa through matter/thread, can it be added to Apple Home and have the same functionality/settings? I bought it for the auto-unlock, but I couldn’t get it added to Apple Home after I added it to the Alexa app first, so I had to go buy a HomePod (that I didn’t want/need).
I’ve added to Apple first then at some point reset it and added to Home assistant first then Apple home then Aqara then homey pro. I did have my HomePods and Apple TV though.
You can try and remove it from Apple and Alexa. In your iPhone after removing from Apple
Home go to settings-general-matter accessories and delete the lock from there to prevent issues.
The I would, to experiment, unplug the HomePod. Then put the lock which was reset into pairing mode, scan the code to add to your Alexa thread border router. Once successful you can generate a matter paring code by sharing from Alexa app. Copy and go through the pairing process in Apple home. It should accept it and set your HomeKey up again.
If you have any issues please feel free to reply back as I and others that are here would be happy to help you out.
Also if you’re successful and in your return period you can return the HomePod if you really don’t need/use it.
I’ve tried adding it in the Alexa app and I keep getting the error message “Are you setting up this matter device for the first time?” It says it’s entering pairing mode in the home app (and I’m using the code created in the Home app), but in the Alexa app it’s not finding it. It’s showing at the top of the app that it’s ready to be added, but it keeps failing. It’s telling me to bring the Echo device and my phone closer, but they’re already right by the lock (and the HomePod), within 10 feet of each.
