Consolidating Smart Home Hubs: Seeking Advice for a Seamless Integration

I’m diving into the world of smart home automation and I’m curious to hear your experiences! I’ve been using a mix of hubs and devices over the years, and while each has its charm, I’m now looking to streamline everything under one roof. Currently, I’m juggling a Xiaomi gateway, an Ikea Tradfri system, and a Google Home setup. It’s functional, but managing multiple hubs feels a bit overwhelming.

I’ve heard great things about Homey Pro as a versatile hub that can handle Zigbee, Z-Wave, and even integrate with other ecosystems like Google Home and Apple HomeKit. My goal is to reduce the number of hubs, save on energy consumption, and simplify control. But I’m not sure where to start.

For instance, I love my Ikea Tradfri lights, but integrating them with Homey seems a bit tricky. I’ve managed to connect some bulbs, but dimming and scene automation aren’t as seamless as I’d like. Has anyone found a workaround for this? Also, I’m hesitant about relying solely on Zigbee for all my devices. How stable and reliable has your experience been with Homey handling a mixed ecosystem?

Another concern is the Xiaomi Aqara sensors. They’ve been reliable, but I’ve noticed occasional connection drops. Is there a way to ensure a more stable connection with Homey? And what about using Google Nest speakers as alarms for Homey-triggered events? It would be fantastic to have a unified alert system across my devices.

I’m also exploring the possibility of using Matter to connect older hubs with Homey. While it’s promising, I’m not entirely sure how it will impact performance or compatibility. Have any of you successfully integrated multiple hubs using Matter?

I’d love to hear your tips, success stories, or any lessons learned from consolidating your smart home setup. Whether it’s about device compatibility, integration challenges, or just general advice, your insights would be invaluable! Let’s make this journey towards a more integrated smart home a collaborative effort. Thanks in advance for your help and expertise!
