Hey everyone,
I recently got a new Android Wear smartwatch for Father’s Day, and I decided to put it to good use by integrating it with my openHAB setup. The goal was to control my smart home devices right from my wrist, and I’m thrilled to share how it all came together!
I’ve been using openHAB for a while now, and while I love the flexibility it offers, I was always on the lookout for a more convenient way to control my devices. Enter Tasker and AutoWear—two powerful tools that made this integration possible.
First, I configured the openHAB Android app to enable Tasker integration. This was straightforward, just a matter of enabling the setting in the app. Then, I set up Tasker to create tasks that send commands to my openHAB items. For example, I created tasks to toggle my garage doors, bedroom lights, and all automated lights with just a button press on my watch.
AutoWear took this a step further by allowing me to create a custom screen on my watch. This screen lists all my controllable devices, and tapping on any of them triggers the corresponding Tasker task. It’s incredibly intuitive, and I love how it streamlines my interactions with my smart home.
One thing I particularly appreciate is the reliability of this setup. While I still use Google Assistant for most commands, it’s comforting to know I have a backup method that’s just as convenient. This integration has made my smart home experience even more seamless, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone looking to enhance their wearable tech integration.
If you’re curious about how to set this up yourself, I’d be happy to share more details or guide you through the process. It’s a fantastic way to take control of your smart home, literally at your fingertips!
Cheers,
