Creating a Cozy Movie Night with Govee Lights and Automation

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on to create the ultimate movie night setup using my Govee lights and Home Assistant automation. It’s been a fantastic way to unwind after a long day, and I’d love to hear how others are enhancing their home theaters too!

The Setup

I’ve been a big fan of Govee lights for their versatility and vibrant colors. For this project, I used the Govee Smart LED Strip and the Govee Smart LED Bulbs. These lights are perfect for setting the mood, and with the Govee app, I can easily adjust the brightness, color, and even create custom scenes.

To take it a step further, I integrated everything with Home Assistant. I set up an automation that turns on the lights, dims them to a cozy level, and even cycles through different colors to match the genre of the movie. For example, horror movies get a spooky purple hue, while romantic films get a warm amber glow.

The Automation Magic

Here’s a quick peek at the automation I created:
yaml
automation:
alias: Movie Night Setup
trigger:
platform: state
entity_id: input_boolean.movie_night_mode
to: ‘on’
action:
service: light.turn_on
data:
entity_id: light.govee_led_strip
brightness: 50
color_temp: 2700
service: media_player.play_media
data:
entity_id: media_player.home_theater
media_content_id: /path/to/movie.mp4
media_content_type: video/mp4

This setup not only controls the lights but also starts playing the movie automatically. It’s like having a personal theater attendant!

Tips and Tricks

  1. Custom Scenes: I created different scenes in the Govee app for various movie genres. This makes it easy to switch the lighting mood with just a tap.
  2. Integration with Other Devices: I also integrated my smart speaker and thermostat. The lights dim, the temperature adjusts to a comfortable setting, and the music starts playing—all with one button press.
  3. Energy Efficiency: Even though the lights are on, the dimming feature ensures I’m not wasting energy. Plus, the LED lights stay cool, so there’s no risk of overheating.

Feedback and Questions

I’d love to hear how others are using their Govee lights and automations to enhance their home entertainment experience! Have you tried creating custom scenes or integrating multiple devices? Any tips or tricks you’d like to share?

Let’s make every movie night unforgettable!:sparkles:
