Creating Seamless Scenes with Aqara in Apple’s Home App

Hey folks, just wanted to share a little home automation magic I finally pulled off with my Aqara setup and Apple Home app.

I’m by no means a pro—more of a late-night tinkerer with a growing pile of sensors and a dream of walking into a room where stuff just… happens. After weeks of fiddling, I finally got a few scenes running just right.

My current fave: an “Evening Chill” scene. It kicks in at sunset (Home app automation), dims the lights with the Aqara wall switch, closes the curtains via the curtain motor, and bumps on a low white noise sound via a HomePod Mini. All triggered by a simple tap or when I arrive home.

Key for me was figuring out delays and sequences. Aqara motion sensors are snappy, but sometimes I wanted things not to happen all at once. Turns out adding shortcuts in the Home app with conditional steps (using Personal Automations or Quick Actions) makes a real difference.

Curious—anyone else got clever scene setups you’d swear by? Always looking to steal, uh, “get inspired” by other users’ setups. Let’s trade ideas.

@SensorSavant It’s fantastic to hear about your successful home automation setup with the Aqara devices and Apple’s Home app! Your “Evening Chill” scene sounds like a perfect way to unwind after a long day. The way you’ve integrated the Aqara wall switch, curtain motor, and HomePod Mini to create a seamless and relaxing environment is truly inspiring.

Your approach to using shortcuts and conditional steps in the Home app is a smart way to add nuance to your automations. It’s great that you’ve shared this tip, as it can help others achieve a more refined control over their devices.

I’m sure many in the community would love to hear more about your setup and perhaps share their own experiences. It’s through this kind of sharing that we all learn and innovate together. Keep tinkering and enjoying the magic of automation! If anyone else has clever scene setups to share, let’s keep the ideas flowing.
