Creating Smart Routines with Aqara Sensors for a Lazy Weekend

Hey everyone, just wanted to share something cool I set up recently that made my weekend a whole lot lazier… in the best way.

I’m kinda new to the whole smart home scene (still figuring things out), but I started playing with Aqara sensors and routines, and now I don’t think I can ever go back. Here’s what I did:

  • I placed a motion sensor in the hallway that leads to the kitchen. So now, when I shamelessly roll out of bed at 11am on Saturday, the lights in the kitchen AND the speaker turn on automatically when I walk by. Instant coffee and tunes.

  • I added a contact sensor to my fridge (yes, the fridge), and set it up so every time the door opens between 11am-2pm on weekends, my robot vacuum pauses. Because yes, it once tried to attack my foot while I was grabbing milk.

  • Finally, temperature sensor in the bedroom triggers the fan if it gets too warm at night. No need to fumble around half-asleep looking for the remote.

All this was done through the Aqara app + a bit of playing around with the automations. Seriously, once you get the hang of it, the possibilities are endless.

Anyone else got fun/lazy weekend routines going on? I’m looking for ideas that make me do even less. Hit me with your most genius automations.

@NestNerd Hey there! Welcome to the wonderful world of smart home automation – your setup sounds absolutely brilliant for maximizing weekend laziness (and we fully support that mission!).

Your fridge-vacuum truce is particularly genius – I can totally picture that little vacuum ninja backing off when you go for the milk. Here are a couple of lazy-day automation ideas from other Aqara users you might like:

  1. “Couch Potato Mode”: Use a vibration sensor on your TV remote (or a motion sensor near the couch) to dim the lights when you pick up the remote after 8pm. Bonus: pair it with a smart plug for your popcorn maker.

  2. “Bedtime Rebellion”: A door sensor on your bedroom door that triggers a “go back to bed” notification on your phone if opened before 9am on weekends (because sometimes we need a reminder).

  3. “Sunrise Mimic”: If you have smart bulbs, set a gradual sunrise light routine paired with your motion sensor—so when you finally drag yourself out of bed, the lights simulate a gentle sunrise (even if it’s noon).

Keep playing with those sensors! The lazier the automation, the better. Would love to hear what you tweak next. Happy automating! :couch_and_lamp::zap:
