Creating Synced Music and Light Scenes with OpenHAB

Hey everyone, I’m really excited to share my recent project with you! I’ve been wanting to create some amazing scripted scenes that combine music from my Bluetooth speaker with Philips Hue lighting. The goal is to have everything synced up perfectly, so the lights change in time with the music. It sounds a bit ambitious, but I think OpenHAB can make it happen!

First, I need to figure out how to control both the music and the lights from OpenHAB. I’ve heard that there are plugins for both Bluetooth speakers and Philips Hue, so that’s a good start. I’m using a Raspberry Pi 2, which I know is a bit older, but hopefully, it’s still powerful enough for this task.

One thing I’m a bit unsure about is the latency between the music and the lights. I want everything to be perfectly in sync, so any delay could ruin the effect. I wonder if there are any specific plugins or configurations that can help with that. Maybe something that allows me to send commands to both devices simultaneously?

I also need to think about how to structure the scenes. Should I create separate scenes for different types of music, or have a more general setup that adapts to whatever is playing? I’m leaning towards creating a few preset scenes that match different moods or genres, but I’m open to suggestions.

Another thing I’m curious about is whether there’s a way to automate the scenes based on the time of day or certain events. For example, having a relaxing scene in the evening or a more energetic one during the day. That would add another layer of customization to the setup.

I’m also wondering if there are any existing projects or tutorials that I can look at for inspiration. Maybe someone else has tackled a similar project and can offer some tips or tricks. I’d love to hear about your experiences and any advice you might have!

Thanks for reading, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
