Hey fellow smart home nerds,
So I’ve been down a rabbit hole lately trying to make my apartment more pet-friendly with my Aqara setup—and honestly, some of the stuff I’ve tried has been surprisingly effective (and kinda fun).
Here’s what’s working in my setup with my indoor cat:
-
I put a motion sensor near her litter box. Not to spy on her or anything, but it triggers a small fan for ventilation right after use and sends me a notification if she hasn’t been there in a while—great for detecting possible health issues early.
-
I stuck a vibration sensor on her favorite window perch. If she jumps on, it triggers the blinds to open a bit so she can bird-watch in full glory during the day.
-
Door/window sensors on cabinet doors—because she’s a sneaky little thief and figured out how to get into the snack shelf. Now I get a heads-up if she’s up to her usual heists.
Thinking of trying out an automation that turns on a soft nightlight if she moves around between midnight and 5am. Just something gentle so we both don’t get startled if she decides it’s parkour o’clock.
Curious if any of you have done pet-focused automations with Aqara that go beyond the basics. Let me know your hacks or if you think I’m just totally over-engineering this stuff. But hey, it’s working!
Cheers!
