When people talk about smart homes, the conversation usually revolves around devices, automations, and scenes. Motion sensors turning on lights, thermostats adjusting temperature, presence detection triggering routines.
All of that is great. But I think creativity in a smart home can go much further than that.
A smart home can become something like a canvas.
-
You start thinking about how a home should feel?
-
How light changes when you enter?
-
What kind of music greets you after a long day?
-
How warmth, lighting, and atmosphere can respond to the moment you walk through the door?
At some point, it stops being just technology and starts becoming something closer to design… or even a form of art.
I recently experimented with something a bit unusual.
Instead of creating another automation, I created a song about the idea of a smart home.
The story behind it is simple:
A man who spends his life trying to meet everyone else’s expectations eventually realizes that his home should be a place that responds to him. Not the other way around.
Technology cannot replace people.
But sometimes it can express care, intention, and comfort in ways that make a home feel truly welcoming.
That idea turned into this song.
Maybe it’s a slightly different way of looking at smart homes.
But I believe creativity in this space doesn’t have to stop at YAML files, scenes, and dashboards.
Sometimes it can go a little further.
