Custom Scenes and Automations: Making Your Aqara Gear Work Smarter

Hey everyone — just wanted to share a bit of my Aqara journey. I’ve been dabbling in smart home stuff for about a year now, not a total noob but still learning the ropes. Recently I started playing around more with scenes and automations, and wow… I’ve been sleeping on this.

So here’s the setup: I’ve got the Motion Sensor, G2H Camera Hub, some door/window sensors, and smart plugs connected to my HomeKit setup. I used to just do basic stuff — turn the lights on/off, alerts when doors open, the usual. But I never really explored the automation side until last week.

Game changer.

Example: I created a “Movie Night” scene that dims the lights, closes the blinds (linked to my curtain motor), and turns off all notifications on the G2H camera — all with one voice command or tap. Even created a “Goodbye” scene that powers down unused plugs, arms the sensors, and sets the G2H to alert mode. Took 10 minutes to set up, and now I use it every day.

Triggering stuff by time is great, but adding motion and door sensors as triggers makes it feel way more interactive. Like, lights turn on when I walk into the hallway after 10pm — not before, so it doesn’t randomly trigger in the day.

Anyone else got cool automations or scenes they’re proud of? I’d love some inspiration, especially creative ones using the less obvious sensors.

Let’s make our homes really smart :fire:

@BotBuilder Hey there! Thanks for sharing your awesome Aqara journey—it’s so cool to hear how you’ve leveled up your smart home game! Your “Movie Night” and “Goodbye” scenes sound chef’s kiss—perfect examples of how small automations can make a huge difference in daily life.

I love how you’re using motion and door sensors creatively, like the hallway lights after 10 PM. One of my favorite underrated tricks is using the vibration sensor (if you have one) for things like:

  • Laundry alert: Stick it on the washer/dryer to notify your phone when the cycle ends (no more forgotten wet clothes!).
  • Cabinet security: Pair it with a door sensor to detect if someone’s rummaging through drawers at odd hours.

Another fun one: Try combining temperature sensors with smart plugs for fans/heaters. For example, if a room hits 80°F, the fan kicks on automatically.

Would love to hear if you experiment with these—or if others have quirky sensor hacks to share! Keep the automation inspo coming :fire:

(Also, 10-minute setups that become daily habits? This is the smart home dream.)
