Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success with setting up custom voice commands and automations in Home Assistant. It’s been a game-changer for how I interact with my smart home!
I started by exploring the integration between Google Assistant and Home Assistant, which worked out of the box for basic commands. But I really wanted to customize things to fit my specific needs. For example, I wanted to say, ‘Let the robot vacuum clean the living room’ or ‘What’s the air quality in the kitchen?’. After some research, I discovered that Home Assistant allows for custom intents and actions through the Google Assistant integration. It took a bit of tweaking, but I managed to set up these commands using the intent and action features in the configuration.
One of my favorite automations is the morning routine. Every day at 7 AM, my lights gradually turn on, the coffee maker starts brewing, and my phone plays a gentle alarm. It’s like having a personal assistant who knows exactly how I like my mornings!
