Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success with creating a custom weather widget for my openHAB setup. After spending quite some time experimenting and tweaking, I finally managed to get everything working smoothly!
The Challenge: I was looking for a way to display the current weather conditions on my dashboard in a more visually appealing manner. The default widgets just didn’t cut it for me, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
The Solution: I stumbled upon a fantastic icon set called Climacons, which provided the perfect visuals for different weather conditions. Using this, I designed two layouts—one for square widgets and another for rectangular ones. The best part? It’s fully customizable, so you can adjust the font sizes and styles to match your preferences!
Installation Process: Here’s a quick rundown of what I did:
- I downloaded the Climacons iconset and placed it in my
/addons/folder. - I imported the widget file into my openHAB setup.
- I set up three items: one for the weather condition, another for the formatted condition, and the last one for the temperature.
Outcome: The result is nothing short of amazing! The widget now displays the current weather condition with an appropriate icon and the temperature in a clean, easy-to-read format. It’s been a great addition to my dashboard, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
Tips for Others: If you’re thinking about creating your own custom widgets, my advice is to start simple and gradually build up. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for help or inspiration. There are some incredibly talented people out there who are more than willing to share their knowledge!
I hope this little project inspires someone else to try their hand at creating custom widgets. Happy tinkering! ![]()
