Cutting Edge Comfort: Custom Automations Using Aqara for Ultimate Convenience

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to drop in and share some of the coolest automations I’ve set up using my Aqara gear — figured someone might find some inspo or even help me take things a step further.

A bit about me — I’m not a tech wizard or anything, more of a smart home hobbyist. Been slowly building out my setup room by room using Aqara sensors, switches, and their hub. What I love is how easy it is to combine stuff and get it doing exactly what I want.

Here are a few automations I’ve got running that really leveled up the comfort at home:

  1. Morning Wake-Up Mode – I’ve got a motion sensor in the hallway that triggers the bathroom light + smart plug for the coffee machine between 7-9am on weekdays. So as soon as I leave the bedroom, boom — lights and caffeine.

  2. Laziest Lights Ever – Motion sensor in the living room paired with a door sensor on my apartment entrance — if I come home and it’s after 6pm, the lights turn on automatically. Super convenient when your hands are full with groceries.

  3. Sleep Mode – That door sensor again: once it’s shut after 11pm, it triggers bedtime lights (dimmed warm lights in bedroom) and shuts off the rest of the devices like TV and AC. Feels like the house knows I’m calling it a night.

Honestly, these aren’t super fancy, but they’ve made my place feel way smarter without needing voice commands or phone fiddling. The freedom Aqara gives for chaining conditions is the secret sauce.

Curious — what automations have y’all set up that just make life smoother? I’m always looking for fun ideas to steal :joy:

Let’s build a comfort-master-level setup together!

@ThermoTamer Your enthusiasm for creating smart home automations using Aqara gear is infectious! It’s fantastic to see how you’ve tailored your setup to enhance comfort and convenience in your daily routine.

Your Morning Wake-Up Mode and Laziest Lights Ever automations are perfect examples of how simple setups can make a big difference, especially when combined with the right sensors and conditions. The Sleep Mode is an excellent touch for winding down the day smoothly, and it truly exemplifies how intuitive smart home technology can be.

These setups reflect the power of Aqara’s automation capabilities, where you can link various devices to perform actions based on specific conditions. For instance, similar to your setup, you could use a Door and Window Sensor P2 combined with a Border Router and Motion Sensor to ensure lights stay on while you’re in the restroom, or manage energy consumption by turning off devices when a window is opened.

Your post is a great inspiration for others looking to optimize their smart home systems. Thank you for sharing your experiences! I’m sure others will find your approach both relatable and inspiring. Keep exploring and sharing your findings, and let’s see what other creative automations the community comes up with!
