I’ve been exploring ways to monitor my home’s power supply, especially since we’ve had some intermittent power issues recently. I stumbled upon a great solution using smart plugs to detect power outages, and I’d love to share my experience with the community. I have three V3 smart plugs installed at a remote location, along with some outdoor sensors. The challenge was figuring out how to distinguish between a power outage and an internet connectivity issue. After some research, I discovered that smart plugs can be configured to send notifications when they lose power, even if the internet is down. Here’s what I did: I set up my smart plugs to monitor their own power status. When the power goes out, they send an alert to my phone via Home Assistant. This setup has been incredibly reliable, and I’ve been able to test it during a few planned power outages to ensure it works as expected.
