Different Zigbee Channels Between Aqara M3 and G5 Pro Cameras

Hello everyone,

All of the smart home devices in my house are connected to an Aqara M3 Hub. I also have four Aqara G5 Pro cameras with PoE support in my setup. I have not connected any child/sub-devices to the cameras.

In the “Network Information” section of the M3 Hub, I can see that the Zigbee channel is set to 11 and the Thread channel is 14. However, when I check the network information of the G5 Pro cameras, both the Zigbee channel and the Thread channel appear as 14.

The Thread channel being the same across devices seems normal, but the different Zigbee channel values confused me a bit. Since I do not have any Zigbee child devices connected to the cameras, I’m not sure whether this is important in practice.

Is this behavior normal? Do other users with a similar setup see the same thing? I would appreciate hearing from anyone with experience or technical knowledge about this.

Hello, the answer is simple. Each Aqara gateway creates its own Zigbee network. All Zigbee networks (gateway1, 2, 3…) talk to each other through the router to which all gateways are connected. A common mistake of users is “thinking that gateways work as Zigbee repeaters”. No, each network is isolated from each other. The Thread is built on a different principle, I think you understand what I mean.
