Dimmer Switch H2 EU with Matter - No Dial Capability?

Hi, I have two problems with the Dimmer Switch H2 EU.

  1. would like to add the Dimmer Switch H2 EU to the Aqara Home App so that I can see things like device firmware updates. Currently, I cannot add it to the Aqara Home App, because it tells me I don’t have an Aqara Matter Hub. I’m using a matter server via Home Assistant, which work for all my other Matter devices. Needing an Aqara Matter hub defeats the whole purpose of Matter, which was to increase interoperability in the first place. I would really like a solution to add this without an Aqara Matter Hub.

  2. When I connect the Dimmer Switch H2 EU to my Home Assistant server via Matter over Thread, the only event exposed to Home Assistant is the button event. I do not see the event for dial turns, which I would like to use to be able to set the brightness of my Matter smart lights via Home Assistant.

I understand while using Matter I may loose features like decoupling mode (?) or long / double presses (?), but at a bare minium I expect to be able to use the dial/dimmer function via Matter with a 3rd party app.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Every smart home platform needs its own Matter controller (a hub). Home Assistant needs the Matter server, Google Home or Alexa smart speakers or similar, Aqara its hub. They usually publish the Matter firmware updates so other platforms can update the products, in other words, you probably don’t need the Aqara app/hub at all.

Regarding the dial events, it is a dimmer, you should be able to see the on/off state and the brightness level, can’t you? The dial is the brightness and I guess you can create an automation to copy the brightness of the dimmer to other lights.
