Disabling lights triggers when you're AWAY

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a dead-simple automation logic I’ve implemented to solve a common headache: lights turning on unnecessarily while the house is empty.

The Problem:

When I leave and my Aqara system arms itself to AWAY mode, my robot vacuums start their cleaning cycle. As they move from room to room, they trigger the motion sensors, which in turn triggers my “Turn on lights upon motion” automations. It’s a waste of energy and can be confusing for neighbors.

The Solution:

Instead of messing with sensor sensitivity, I used the Alarm System state as a master toggle:

  1. IF Alarm System is set to AWAY, THEN Disable “Motion Light” Automations.
  2. IF Alarm System is DISARMED , THEN Enable “Motion Light” Automations.

It’s simple, effective, and keeps the house dark while the robots do their thing. Hope this helps someone dealing with the same “ghost” triggers!

Cheers

Yep, I did the same thing. When the night alarm is activated, the cat can’t turn on the light by jumping on the table.

A little tip: If you have several automations, it’s best to bundle them all into one scene. So one scene to activate and another to deactivate the automations.
