Hey everyone, just wanted to share something I recently pulled off — built my own DIY alarm system using Aqara gear, and honestly, I’m pretty pumped about how it’s working out!
I’m no tech wizard, just a regular guy who got tired of false alarms from my old clunky system and wanted something smarter without spending a fortune. I started small — got an Aqara hub, a couple of door and motion sensors, and a vibration sensor (surprisingly handy by the way).
The best part? Setting it all up through the Aqara app was smoother than I expected. Created scenes like “away mode” that arms everything when I leave, and paired it all with my iPhone and a cheap siren I linked through HomeKit. Now whenever someone opens the door or moves where they shouldn’t — boom, notification and siren.
I also added automation to turn on lights in the hallway if motion is detected at night. Super handy when I sneak to the fridge at 1 a.m.
Still tweaking a few things (battery alerts and more custom responses), but if you’ve been thinking about rolling your own setup with Aqara, I’d say go for it. Happy to share more details if anyone’s curious or hitting snags doing something similar.
Has anyone else tried building a full security flow with Aqara? Would love to hear your setups or tips!
