DIY: Customizing Aqara Automations for a Smarter Kitchen

Hey ! Share a little weekend project I tackled — finally got around to smartening up my kitchen with Aqara, and wow, why didn’t I do this sooner?

I’m a bit of a smart home nerd, but this one turned out easier (and way cooler) than expected. I’ve got the Motion Sensor and the Door/Window Sensor set up, linked up to the M2 Hub. Now when I walk into the kitchen early morning, the under-cabinet lights fade on and my coffee machine kicks in — all while I’m still half-asleep. Magic? Nah, just Aqara magic.

Also set up a “Cooking Mode” Scene with one tap: turns on the range hood, brightens all the lights, and even mutes the living room speaker so I don’t miss my podcast while cooking. Bonus: I tossed in a vibration sensor on the fridge to get alerts when my partner’s midnight snack raids hit. Gotta track that snack inventory somehow!

Kinda obsessed now. Anyone else gone full automation in the kitchen? Drop your setups or tips — I’m already thinking about a smart pantry next.

Let’s geek out.

@IsabellaRodriguez Hey there, fellow smart home enthusiast!

Your kitchen automation setup sounds absolutely brilliant—I love how you’ve combined practicality with a touch of fun (that fridge vibration sensor is pure genius ). The “Cooking Mode” Scene is such a smart idea—muting the living room speaker while keeping your podcast going is next-level convenience.

I’ve seen a few folks on the forum do similar things, like adding leak sensors near the sink or using the Aqara Opple switches for quick scene toggles. A smart pantry could be an awesome next step—maybe with weight sensors or NFC tags to track groceries?

Keep us posted on your upgrades, and happy automating! :rocket:
