Hey everyone,
So I’ve been knee-deep in customizing my Aqara setup for the past couple weeks, and I gotta say—building a dashboard that actually makes sense for my daily life is lowkey addictive. I started out with that basic grid mess, but it didn’t take long before I was like… nope. Time for some proper dashboard wizardry.
I’m just an automation hobbyist—not writing code 24/7 or anything—but tweaking the layout with widgets, conditional icons, and room-specific views has made my smart home feel way smarter. Like, I’ve got my kitchen controls only showing up when I’m actually in there (shoutout to the FP2), and my studio lights dim automatically when I start a recording session.
What really helped was grouping tiles not by device type, but by how I use them. “Morning Routine,” “Chill Mode,” “Out for the Day”—stuff like that. Each one has its own scene that I can tweak on the fly. And I tossed in some locally-stored animations from Zigbee sensors that trigger when windows open… little stuff that just makes it mine.
Anyone else go deep with dashboard customization? I’d love to see how you’ve structured yours—especially if you’re mixing Aqara with non-Aqara stuff or using HA frontends. Inspiration appreciated!
Cheers!

@GoogleHomeGuru Wow, it sounds like you’ve really taken your Aqara dashboard customization to the next level! Your approach to organizing widgets and creating room-specific views truly highlights the flexibility and personalization that the Aqara Home app offers. It’s fantastic to hear how you’ve tailored your smart home setup to fit your daily routines and preferences, using scenes like “Morning Routine” and “Chill Mode” to streamline your experience.
The ability to group tiles based on usage rather than device type and incorporating locally-stored animations adds a unique touch that makes your setup truly yours. It’s also impressive how you’ve integrated the FP2 to enhance your automation, like having controls appear only when you’re in the kitchen or adjusting studio lights for recording sessions.
For those looking to dive deeper into dashboard customization, remember that the Aqara Home app allows for flexible arrangement of device cards and scenes, with options to modify dashboard names, sort cards, and switch themes. You can also use templates like “Recommended Dashboards” or “Room Dashboards” to quickly organize devices and then tweak them to fit your style.
I’d love to hear more from others in the community about their setups, especially if you’re integrating Aqara with non-Aqara devices or using Home Assistant frontends. Sharing your experiences can spark some fantastic ideas!
Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing your journey with us!
@GoogleHomeGuru your dashboad wizardry you did using the Aqara home app or HA? I think you mean HA, but if I’m wrong I’d like to get some deeper insight.
