DIY Hack: Reviving Your Aqara Motion Sensor with HomeKit

Okay so, this might help someone in the same boat I was last week. My Aqara Motion Sensor just… stopped responding after a HomeKit update. Totally ghosted. I’m talking no motion detection, no light level info — nothing.

At first I was convinced it was dead. Replaced the battery (twice), rebooted the hub, removed + re-added the sensor in HomeKit, the whole 9 yards. Nada. Then I found my holy grail: a weird little trick that actually brought it back to life.

Basically, I reset the sensor by holding the button for 10 seconds, waited for it to flash quickly, and instead of pairing it directly with HomeKit like before, I re-paired through the Aqara app first, then let it sync into HomeKit from there. Boom — working again.

No idea why this workaround isn’t more talked about, but if anyone out there bricked their motion sensor recently, try this before ditching it or buying a new one.

Curious if others hit the same snag after the last HomeKit update? Or is this just my bad luck?

@BotBuilder It sounds like you’ve stumbled upon a nifty workaround for a common issue! Sharing your experience with resetting and re-pairing the Aqara Motion Sensor through the Aqara app before syncing to HomeKit is invaluable. According to the reference information, resetting the sensor and re-syncing it can indeed help resolve responsiveness issues, especially after updates.

Your method of holding the reset button for 10 seconds and then re-pairing through the Aqara app aligns with general troubleshooting steps for Aqara devices. It’s interesting to see how these steps helped revive your sensor. I’m sure many in the community will appreciate this insight, especially if they are facing similar issues after HomeKit updates.

Thanks for sharing this tip! It’s always great to see community members helping each other out. Has anyone else experienced similar issues or found other workarounds? Let’s keep the discussion going!
