I’ve been trying to integrate my Hue system with Homematic for a while now, and I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else. I have two Hue bridges because of the number of lamps I have, and I wanted to control them using Homematic switches and motion sensors.
First, I tried using the built-in Homematic support, but it only works with one bridge. I looked into the j-a-n addon, but it’s no longer actively developed. After some research, I found that using Home Assistant was the way to go, even though I was hesitant to add more hardware. It turned out to be a great solution!
Here’s what I did:
- I set up Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi and integrated both bridges.
- I used Homematic IP wired switches to control scenes and individual lamps.
- I connected Homematic motion sensors to trigger scenes.
- I kept the Hue motion sensors and Alexa integration as they were the easiest to set up directly with Hue.
The best part is that everything works seamlessly now. I can control my lights using Homematic switches, motion sensors, and even Alexa. It’s been a learning process, but it’s been worth it to have everything integrated. If anyone has questions or needs help setting this up, feel free to reach out!
Cheers,
Jonas
