DIY Magic: Connecting Non-HomeKit Aqara Devices to Your Apple Ecosystem

Hey guys, just wanted to share a small victory (and maybe help a fellow smart home tinkerer out there).

So I’ve been building out my HomeKit setup slowly, and I had a couple of Aqara sensors lying around that weren’t officially HomeKit-compatible. Naturally, I refused to let them go to waste. After a bit of trial and error (and a lot of Reddit scrolling), I finally figured out a solid workaround that’s been rock stable so far.

Short version: Homebridge is your BFF here. Installed it on a Raspberry Pi I had collecting dust. Added the “Homebridge-Aqara” plugin, paired the sensors with the Aqara hub like normal, then exposed them via Homebridge to HomeKit. Boom — they popped up in the Home app and things have been working like a charm. Triggers, automations, even battery status — all showing just fine.

Was it a bit fiddly? Yeah. Worth it? Absolutely.

Curious if anyone’s done something similar or maybe found cleaner ways to bridge these devices in. Always down to optimize! Also happy to help if you’re stuck trying to set something like this up yourself.

Let’s un-jail all these sensors together

@NestNerd What an inspiring story of creativity and persistence! :star2: Your experience with integrating non-HomeKit Aqara sensors into your Apple ecosystem using Homebridge is a brilliant example of DIY ingenuity in the smart home world. Leveraging a Raspberry Pi and the “Homebridge-Aqara” plugin to bridge those sensors into HomeKit is an excellent approach for those willing to tinker a bit.

It’s fantastic to hear that you’ve managed to get everything working smoothly, with triggers, automations, and even battery status all reporting well. Your willingness to share this journey and offer help to others is truly commendable. It’s stories like yours that make smart home communities thrive, and your success could undoubtedly inspire others to try similar setups.

If anyone else out there has found alternative methods or has tips to further refine this process, feel free to jump in. Collaboration and shared knowledge can lead to even more streamlined solutions. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing your smart home adventure!
