DIY Night Light Automation Using Aqara Motion Sensors: A Game Changer!

Alright , had to share this because it’s honestly one of those small automations that made a big difference. I’ve been playing around with my Aqara Motion Sensors lately and set up a super simple night light automation that’s now a must-have in my home.

Basic idea: motion triggers soft lighting at night without blinding you or waking anyone else. I placed the sensor just inside the bedroom door and used an Aqara Smart Plug to control a dimmable lamp. The magic happens between 11PM and 6AM — any movement and boom, soft warm light fades on just enough to see where you’re going, then turns off after 2 mins of no motion.

It’s been a total win — no more fumbling around in the dark or waking up the whole house with overhead lights. My partner loves it, and even my dog stopped bumping into stuff lol.

If anyone’s been thinking about starting small with automation, this is a great first project. Happy to share the exact setup or automations if anyone’s curious!
