DIY Outdoor Lighting & Smart Bulb Review

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun DIY project I recently completed and also give my thoughts on a smart bulb I’ve been testing out. :star2:

First, the DIY project: I’ve been inspired by the idea of creating outdoor lanterns using Govee lights. I saw this concept online and decided to give it a try. The result? I think they turned out pretty great! :+1: The process was simple—using some basic materials and LED strips, I was able to create these lanterns that add a nice warm glow to my backyard. It’s been a great way to enhance the outdoor ambiance without breaking the bank.

Now, onto the smart bulb review. I recently picked up the Sylvania Smart+ White Dimmable A19 Bulb. This is my first experience with a Bluetooth-enabled light bulb, so I was curious to see how it would perform. The packaging was solid, with clear HomeKit compatibility indicated, which was a big plus for me. The bulb itself is dimmable and has a soft white light output, which is perfect for my living room setup.

One of the standout features is the Bluetooth connectivity. I love that it doesn’t require a separate hub, which keeps my setup clean and clutter-free. However, I did notice that the range can be a bit hit or miss, especially if there are walls or other obstacles in the way. That being said, in my home setup, it’s worked reliably for the most part.

The price point was another big win for me. At $14, it’s significantly cheaper than some of the other smart bulbs I’ve looked at. Plus, the energy efficiency is impressive, with an estimated annual cost of just $1.08. It’s definitely a budget-friendly option that doesn’t compromise on performance.

If I had to nitpick, I’d say the lack of a dedicated mobile app for non-HomeKit users might be a downside for some. But since I’m already invested in the Apple ecosystem, this wasn’t an issue for me. The integration with HomeKit has been seamless, and I can control the bulb using Siri or the Home app without any hiccups.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with this purchase. It’s a great entry point for someone looking to dip their toes into the world of smart lighting without spending a fortune. If you’re in the market for an affordable, reliable smart bulb, I’d definitely give this one a look! :bulb:
