I’ve always been passionate about creating cozy spaces for my pets, especially during the colder months. Inspired by the feral cats in my neighborhood, I decided to build a heated cat shelter using a potato bin. I added a cat warming pad and placed it on my porch, hoping it would provide some comfort during the harsh winters. The cats seem to love it, and I often catch them lounging inside, especially during the early mornings and late evenings. For our dog Speedy, who had Cognitive Disorder in his later years, I wanted something special too. His original favorite was a cardboard box with Christmas lights, but I upgraded it to a wooden structure with battery-operated lights for safety. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to install any GOVEE light strands before he passed away. RIP Speedy Diesel, you were the best companion. The process was both challenging and rewarding. I learned a lot about insulation and selecting the right materials to keep them warm and dry. For anyone looking to create similar shelters, I’d recommend using durable materials and ensuring proper ventilation. It’s a small way to give back to our furry friends and make their lives a bit more comfortable. If anyone has tips or suggestions for improving these structures, I’d love to hear them! Let’s share ideas to make the world a kinder place for our pets. ![]()
